Washington k-8
Overview
Booker T. Washington Elementary K-8 School, a Birmingham City School, seeks multiple community arts education partners to bring the joy of the arts to their students! They look forward to welcoming partners who create, increase, and deepen arts-based experiences for 4th-8th grade students during the 2024-2025 school year as part of their school’s Turnaround Schools Action Plan. Washington K-8 seeks partners for on-campus experiences that help students build leadership skills and yield products or performances that can be featured in the annual Night of the Arts. Additionally:
Programs must take place between September-March.
All proposals must include a component for the annual Night of the Arts event the evening of February 13, 2025. Programs must also facilitate active student participation in this event including planning and executing their presentations, engaging in live performances, readings, or speeches. Visual art, film, and other forms of pre-created work must also incorporate a live student presentation component for the Night of the Arts.
Highest priority programs create opportunities for students to develop and showcase their leadership skills including developing ideas to improve the school, making the school their own, engaging in teamwork and decision making, and creating a platform for their voice to be heard.
Multi-week programs that can be scheduled for Friday clubs from 12:30-2:30pm are preferred. Programs for after school on Mondays and/or Tuesdays from 3:30-4:30pm during the school year are also acceptable. After school programs should be aware that student attendance may be inconsistent.
Washington K-8 is accepting proposals for any art form including visual art, music, theatre, dance, creative writing, and media arts and the subdisciplines within each.
Statement of School and Student Needs: “We are seeking arts experiences that are relatable and culturally-relevant, especially for our high population of ELLs (English Language Learners). Our students are eager to learn, are excitable, and are hard workers. They have a variety of needs beyond the school building. We already have open space in our schedule for after school programming for clubs to meet during our Friday club time at 12:30-2:30pm or on Mondays and Tuesdays (3:30-4:30pm) afterschool. Our club programming can be for a mix of 4th-8th graders. We are seeking structured programs that promote accountability and consistency for our students who may have unpredictability and instability in their lives.”
Washington K-8 will accept proposals in amounts: $0 - $5,000.00 until June 23, 2024.
